Meet Debriefing The Front Lines

By Tara Ryan Kosmas RN, BSN, NC-BC, CHSE, SOAR

Founder & Executive Director of Debriefing The Front Lines

In March of 2020, while working as an Assistant Professor at Towson University, I began to receive an alarming number of calls from former students and nursing colleagues in need of a safe space outside of their affiliated workplace to express emotion free of judgment.

It was the first time in my 16 year career that nurses were fearful - for themselves, their families, their patients and the commUNITY at large.

I knew I had to act - 16 days after a global pandemic was declared, one by one I began Debriefing the Front Lines.

I kept going, until alone was no longer enough.

Debriefing the Front Lines (DTFL)  is a national nurse-led nonprofit organization providing

Debriefing Explained

It’s likely you’ve heard the term debriefing but feel unsure as to what it entails (because you’ve never been offered one!)

Through guided self reflection, debriefing offers

  • Clarity surrounding critical incidents and assists in establishing a process for recovering a sense of safety in the aftermath of trauma of single incident  and cumulative care taking trauma®.

  • Guided conversation aimed at shifting abnormal and traumatic events into a perspective needed for clarity, learning and emotional recovery.

  • Creates meaning surrounding aspects of the story, including the painful parts

  • Allows nurses to connect with themselves fostering acceptance and a felt sense of safety.

  • The debriefing space allows you to connect with yourself while experiencing the power of being heard at a pace set by you.

Start here. Exactly where you are.

Take our quiz to find out which support offering is best suited for your needs. From there, book a complimentary debriefing in honor of Mental Health Month and Nurses Week now through the end of May! Should you wish to continue, DTFL is offering 10% off all support session packages, including Ego Death, Timeline Therapy, and EFT!

Scholarships are (always) available for those not working or facing financial hardship.

Debriefing is for the nurse who

  • Feel  as if alone is no longer enough

  • Is seeking affirmation to continue in the profession or the courage to leave

  • Wants to examine the intersection of nursing and their own trauma

  • Has been isolating, abandoning, and feeling disconnected from themselves (and the world around them)

  • Lives in sympathetic activation and is unable to rest

  • Wants to restore a sense of safety in the aftermath of a single incident or Cumulative Care Taking Trauma®

If trauma is cumulative then so is healing.

Book here to experience the power of being heard.
